Everyone knows Die Hard is a Christmas movie or whatever. The Horror Times says fuck Christmas, get us to 2021 already. Because the year 2020 has been a banner year for losing your mind being stuck indoors, we wanted to find something that felt appropriate and landed on Stanley Kubrick’s unbeatable classic The Shining (1980). A movie that’s forty years old and feels like it always has been. Themes of isolation, madness, the circular nature of time, it all feels maybe a little too close to home for comfort. And that’s good because The Shining is a movie as supremely uncomfortable as it is beautiful. Rejoice in the coming of Jack Nicholson’s eyebrows and Shelley Duvall’s inspired cold-weather WFH fits.
